The Society’s members have come together to bring greater awareness of the pioneering work of Professor John Macleod.
Commissioning a statue of Macleod was the brainchild of the Society’s Founder & Chairman, who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for over 50 years. A lifelong Aberdonian, John has been an advocate for Macleod since discovering the Nobel Prize Laureate’s modest gravesite in Allenvale Cemetery.
Kimberlie is an internationally best-selling children’s author and screenwriter who moved from Los Angeles, California to Aberdeen in 2017. She oversees the Society’s digital media, video production and event planning.
Douglas has been a champion of the Society’s memorial statue project since its inception and serves as an invaluable advisor and liaison with Aberdeen City Council and The Scottish Parliament.
Mike and his talented team at M&G were instrumental in raising awareness about the Macleod Memorial project and planning the celebratory gala event.
Carol is well-known within the juvenile diabetes and medical research communities across the U.K. and serves as a valued member of the Society.
Charlotte is an inspiring role model for young people like herself with type 1 diabetes. She was diagnosed in 2019 when she was 5 years old. Charlotte serves the Society as a Youth Ambassador, a fitting role for a project honouring a man who has benefitted the lives of millions of children and families around the globe.
Special thanks to the Lord Provost of Aberdeen David Cameron, Lord Dean of Guild Sylvia Halkerston, Ronald Watt OBE and Dr Ken McHardy for their expertise and ongoing support for this project.
